Many people get stomach problems after eating certain food containing gluten (wheat, barley, rye, oats, cereals, etc.).

Some people suffer from abdominal pain, diarrhea, a feeling of fullness in the stomach, formation of gas, etc. on eating gluten grains or food.

Gluten is a type of protein. When Our body becomes very sensitive to this protein and starts reacting against it, we call this disease Celiac Disease.

It is an auto-immune disorder in which our body starts attacking its own cells.

The blood test that is done to detect this disease is called Tissue Transglutaminase IgA or TTG IgA test. In this test we check the antibodies of tTG IgA.

If we have Celiac Disease and we have eaten gluten-rich food, then our immune cells start attacking gluten and eliminating it, due to which our small intestine also starts getting damaged.

If this condition persists for a long time then it creates a very serious problem.

It is an auto immune disease so its cause is not yet known but there are some things which aggravate it.

Children who eat a lot of gluten-rich food in their early days are most likely to develop this disease.

Children who have frequent stomach infections in the early stages of life also have an increased chance of getting Celiac Disease.

Apart from all these, those who have diabetes type-1 or thyroid are also likely to have celiac disease. This disease is also genetic

Its cost is around 1500 Rs. Its cost may vary from lab to lab.

Treatment for Positive tTG IgA Test

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease, so there is no cure for it.

You can only control your diet and you will have to eat gluten-free food for the rest of your life.

You can control the symptoms of the problem caused by Celiac disease with medicine.

tTG IgA Test Normal Range

The normal value of tTG IgA in the blood should be less than 3 U/mL.

If this value is coming between 4 U/mL to 10 U/mL, then it means that you are at borderline of Celiac Disease or test is weak positive.

If this value is above 11 U/mL then it means that you have Celiac disease.

What Precautions Should Be Taken Before tTG IgA Test

No special precautions have to be taken before tTG IgA test. This test can be done at any time but you should take gluten rich food 10 hours before this test.

This gives accurate results. Even if you have celiac disease, you should still eat gluten-containing foods before the test.
