There are so many Black Holes in our Milky Way galaxy. At the center of the Milky Way is a huge black hole that we call a supermassive black hole.

This black hole located in the center of the Milky Way is known as Sagittarius-A. Its mass is 4 million times the mass of our Sun and it is 26,000 light years away from our Earth.

This means that if we travel at the speed of light, it will take us 26,000 years to reach this black hole.

The diameter of Sagittarius-A is 2 crore 35 lakh kilometers, you can guess how big this black hole is. Apart from this, there are many small and large black holes in our galaxy.

Closest black hole to earth

The nearest black hole to Earth is Gaia BH1. This black hole is at a distance of 1560 light-years from Earth and is located in the constellation Ophiuchus.

This black hole has been discovered in November 2022. This black hole is more than 10 times bigger than our Sun.

Before this, the closest black hole to us was A0620–00, which is located in the constellation Monoceros.

It is at a distance of 3,000 light years from our Earth. This black hole is about 7 times bigger than the Sun.

If we talk about the largest black hole ever known, it is TON-618.

TON-618 is so large that its mass is equal to the weight of 66 billion Suns. This black hole is located in the constellation Canes Venatici.

Many people believed that HR-6819 is the closest black hole to Earth, which is located at a distance of just 1,000 light years. But later it was known that this is not a black hole.

By the way, many more black holes can be found around us because black holes are very difficult to detect. There are over 1 billion black holes in our galaxy Milky Way.
