Is “wind” just a result of the earth moving?
No. Well, almost no… The primary cause of wind are air pressure differences resulting from temperature differences across the globe.
In some places the air is warmed and goes up, in others cool air is going down, and as a result horizontal movements of air appear to compensate for those vertical movements.
The rotation of the Earth (not movement, rotation) has its effect on direction of those winds.
In absence of rotation the wind would blow directly from higher to lower pressure area.
Due to Earth rotation an additional force, called Coriolis force, causes those moving air masses to deviate from straight paths and move in circles, or spirals.
Also, the Earth’s rotation and orbital motion result it daily and yearly changes in the amount of heat various areas receive form the Sun, which results in preferred wind patterns.
So, while wind is not directly “caused” by motion of the Earth, the motion has a lot to do with its existence and direction.
